                                            Langston Hughes

I chose Langston Hughes because i really love his poems that are mostly based on black culture. He fought for African Americans rights and for them to dream again.

Langston Hughes was an African American poet. He was born on February 1, 1902. His parents separated when he was a young kid. From then on he lived with his grandmother who told him many stories of the past which encouraged to have in interest in black culture. He wrote his first poem at the age of 17 while crossing the Mississippi River on the way to see his dad. His father didn't support him in this career because he wanted him to be an engineer. No support from his father didn't stop him from writing more poems. He later then enrolled in Columbia University and dropped out to work. Years later he enrolled in Lincoln University. Langston Hughes wrote many amazing poems but out of all, my favorite was the poem "let America Be America Again". This particular poem talks about how he wants America to be back to how it was, how people imagined it, to live the dream since many people weren't living it. Langston Hughes supported the American Dream and wrote many poems about it. Overall, Langston Hughes is known as one of the best poets. His poems are amazing and for that reason, I chose Langston Hughes. I believe other people should read his poems because they are incredible.
